Does the BPLA need a major shakeup?

Toronto Star

TORONTO— I hope I’m wrong but the events over the past few days are proving me right. As much as I’d like to write about topics that entertain and poke fun. Today, I’ve been forced to write about an article that is very serious. What I’m about to say me arouse the senses of some while at the same time angering many others. However, due to the events that I have witnessed over the past week, I have no choice but to proceed with this article.

When I first joined the BPLA, as it’s resident writer, I was impressed with the way the league was progressing. However, within a matter of three days, I was quickly turned off. The first so called incident was the All-Star game itself. I was honored to attend the All-Star game live and witnessed what turned out to be a great spectacle. Although I was excited by the results of the All-star game, I was appalled to see that only a few owners, four to be exact, turned out. To make matters worse the team that hosted the event, Orlando Predators, didn’t even drop by to take in the action. This really upset me because I’ve seen a larger turnout at a Sitar concert featuring Ravi Shanker. People do have lives so I was willing to let that disturbing display of participation by owners slide. However, then the trade meetings occurred with the same low turnout. When I found out that a paltry six owners attended the trade meetings I almost started to cry. How am I supposed to write about league activity if nobody ever gets involved in any? I may be new to the league but I’m getting the notion that this league needs a major shakeup. It breaks my heart to watch the commissioner of the league, who works extremely hard at maintaining the league, continue to supply a great product to owners who don’t give a damn. That is why I have come up with a few suggestions to help rid the league of foul owners. Commissioner King, seeing as how you work so hard and don’t get enough participation. I thought I’d write about ways to improve the BPLA overall. I truly hope you don’t mind.

To be honest, the BPLA has a great commissioner but not enough active owners. In order to keep a league running with active owners a weeding out system needs to be implemented. This means that owners should be required to participate on a mandatory basis. If people don’t have to participate they won’t, thus resulting in very low turnouts. First, I’d tell each owner to write at least one article a month. Surely that is not a hard thing do. If I can take time out of my busy week to write a minimum of two articles, an article once a month would be Peanuts for many. If an owner fails to do so, without a legitimate excuse, kick him out of the league and dissolve the team. Secondly, make league meetings mandatory. All owners who wish to keep a team in the BPLA should attend. If an owner, without a good reason, fails to attend kick him out of the league and once again dissolve his team. This should be done on a continual basis until a good group of owners make up a solid foundation for the league. Once this has been done the league should expand yearly and use the same system to weed out bad owners. I’m pretty sure there are a bunch of good owners out there who’d love to join the BPLA but can’t because dead and useless owners continue to take up space. All I’m saying is that if I was the commissioner a bunch of the current owners would no longer have a team.

Although I have many negative viewpoints about the owners of the BPLA, I would like to reiterate the fact that not all of the owners are bad. There are many good ones still out there who the BPLA can build around. All it needs is a face-lift and a major shakeup and this league will be one of the best leagues in online gaming history. Personally, I’d like for the owners of the BPLA to prove me wrong. However, until they do, I will be calling loud and clear for their heads to be put on to a chopping block.
